NRA influence on Children

One of the more popular programs is the Eddie Eagle program.
This program teaches children in pre-K through third grade important lessons in encountering a firearm. The NRA offers instructional videos and study aids to schools at little or no cost. None of the Eddie Eagle program materials ever shows a firearm. The purpose of the program is to stop the number of accidental shootings involving young children. To date, the program has reached 18 million children
The huge red bird teaches kids that guns should be avoided at all costs by leaving the gun alone and finding the nearest adult. It does not promote gun participation among the children, although there have been stories depicting children being inspired by Eddie as they mature, rather NRA makes sure that the institutions hiring Eddie do not forgot that he is a direct reflection of the good that the NRA is doing for the community. The wholeness that Eddie provides reminds the folks that the NRA really isn’t as monster like as some paint them.
